Vietnam has been building up for their New Year over the last few weeks - and boy did they go out with a bang.
One of the best things about travelling is the people that you meet. Honestly, we've met so many lovely groups of people and individuals during our trip we thought it would only be right to spend New Year's with the Hoi An friends we'd made. So we all met up at the early hour of 6pm, grabbed some street food then headed for our first round of drinks.
Down on the river front, the streets were so so busy and crowded with both locals and tourists excited to ring in the New Year. We found ourselves bar hopping until around 11:30pm (visit Tiger Tiger if you can, it's the best) then headed towards the big stage that had been set up purely for the celebration. The clock hit 11:59pm, we counted down to midnight then watched in awe as the best fireworks display we've ever seen was unleashed infront of us.
In my 22 years of being alive, never have I seen fireworks so insane and amazing. They went on for a good 15 minutes and were some of the biggest, brightest, loudest fireworks I've ever seen. They put the UK to shame really! After a huge applaud from the crowd lining the river filled with floating lanterns, it was time to head off for one more drink before calling it a night. Asia doesn't really do late nights and all the bars shut pretty early, so you find yourself in bed by 1am most nights out.
But all in all, it was such an amazing evening and Vietnamese New Year really did live up to the hype that had been building up for the last few weeks. They really do know how to put on a show! So... Happy 2016... Again!
